1978 Revisited!

I was at Michael's the other day and found a flashback from my childhood c. 1978 - SHRINKY DINK plastic! I snatched some of that good stuff up on the spot and stashed it away for just the right time to play with it. And you guessed it - today was the day. Seriously! I haven't had this much fun in ages. There's just something about watching that plastic curl up to contortionist proportions and then settle back out again, infinitely tinier, that just makes me happy!

As a special treat for my Curious George-loving 4-year-old, I traced one of his coloring pages, colored and cut it out while he was at preschool (where he made his OWN hat - see picture ;)). Then when he got home, I let him have the honors of shrinking that little monkey right up! He was duly impressed. The results are that he now has a necklace I'm afraid will never come off of him. (And I'm thinking in about 30 years, he'll be mentioning shrinky dinks to his kiddos and his childhood c. 2008!)

UPDATE: Sadly, since that photo was taken, Mr. Carson has broken George, so now only his poor head hangs from a string. Yet he still won't take it off. I find that slightly disturbing.

Is it terrible that I've only just played with shrinky-dink stuff within the past year!?!? =) It is fun, I made some necklaces for my dd too! Love Curious George though...

I know a 5 year old that would die to have one of those necklaces... when we get them together (which has to be soon- the other day Eli actually said he wanted Carson to come to his house!) I am afraid Eli may strangle Carson trying to get it off of him!

That is SO AWESOME. Sophie is home sick today and, as a result, I am home too. So, maybe we'll be taking a trip over to Michael's for some Shrinky Dinks. Of course, ours would be princesses... :) P.S. He is so cute I could eat him up.

Cute picture! Even if George now lacks body and parts. So funny Kelly! I bought some shrinky dink plastic at Michaels 2 years ago to make an ornament for DS that I never did do! I have yet to get it out and use it. I really must, must do that - might you be the inspiration?! I don't think Shrinky Dinks ever disappeared from the store shelving..we just forget about these things until rediscovered. (LOL)
