Please Pray for Jake

I don't normally put out these types of posts, but this family and their story touches close to home and close to my heart. And since I believe in the power of prayer, I'm coming to anyone and everyone who might read this to put Jake in your prayers.

Jake turned 2 in December. He is an amazing little boy who is a new big brother to his 6 month-old baby sister. His parents, Rick and Amy, are the best friends of *my* best friend's husband. (Follow that?) Jake was the answer to many prayers when his parents finally conceived him after a long period of fertility treatments. Now Jake needs your prayers.

Not even 2 weeks ago, Rick and Amy were sure that Jake had the flu. He was vomiting and not eating and just not himself. Concerned, they took him to the Emergency Room to make sure that he wasn't getting dehydrated and to confirm that the flu was all it was. Not long after he got to the ER, Jake had a seizure. The hospital immediately admitted him and did an MRI scan of his brain. Rick and Amy were completely unprepared for what the doctors would tell them - Jake had a tumor in his brain that was the size of a peach. Surgery was scheduled for the next day, where it was discovered that not only was this tumor malignant, but the doctors were not able to remove all of it.

A few days later, additional testing showed that not only did Jake have brain cancer, the cancer was now throughout his body and entertwined with his spine. Due to Jake's age and size (he's only 20 lbs), he cannot withstand radiation therapy. The only option the doctors gave them was chemo, but they didn't hold out much hope for that either.

Please, please, please, if you are the praying kind, put Jake and his family in your prayers. Spread the word about him if you would, get him in prayer circles and prayer chains, mention him at church. He could use all the blessings he could get right now.

Thank you so much.

I can not imagine anything worse that what your friends are going through. Prayers to them and may God give them the strength for their journey.

"I fancied that I heard them say, `Dear Lord, thy will be done. For all the joy this child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may, and for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay. But should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned, we'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.'" excerpt from "I'll Lend You a Little Child of Mine"

I prayed for Jake and his family. I will ask the church ministries to agree with all of us. How heartbreaking for his family. Pray and believe that the Lord's Will be done.

I can relate a lot. I also seek prayers when my son was rushed to the hospital when he was 2 years old. He died with respiratory failure at 2 and 11 months old. I can relate to what the mother feels right now. I will surely include Jake on our prayers. Please tell his family to be strong. God is good and there is nothing impossible to him. God Bless! I will keep little Jake and his family in my prayers. I don't even want to imagine what it feels like to receive such devastating news! Nobody deserves to go through this, but especially not a child this young!

I will pray for Jake and his family and pass their names on to some prayer warriors I know. God is good! Sometimes his goodness is impossible for us to understand, especially when it comes to the suffering of these little ones and their families! but it doesn't change the fact that He is good and He knows exactly what He is doing and where He wants to take His children at times like these!

Oh Kelly.
My heart breaks for that family. I will definately keep them in my prayers.
I will pray that God gives the family strength to deal with this, wisdom and compassion for the doctors.
We take so much for granted in this life. This is one more thing that makes me feel so blessed.

Please feel free to share messages, prayers, etc. directly with Amy & Rick via Jake's Care Page.

Also, there will soon be a fundraiser for Jake at Rick's old elementary school where he was a Reading Specialist for many years. More details soon to follow.
